I largely agree with this statement, as the most impactful scientific breakthroughs have directly addressed human needs, though I believe this should not entirely preclude research that is purely exploratory.

The most celebrated scientific achievements are those that have tangibly improved our quality of life. For instance, the development of vaccines and antibiotics has eradicated diseases that once decimated populations, dramatically increasing life expectancy. Similarly, advancements in agricultural science, such as the Green Revolution, have averted widespread famine by boosting crop yields. However, it is also important to acknowledge the value of pure, curiosity-driven research.
