Task 2 Band 7.5

Cambridge IELTS 15 Academic Writing Test 1 Task 2 Band 7-5 Model Answer

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write at least 250 words.
In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people.
Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Sample Answer (Band 7.5)

In many nations, particularly in developing economies and parts of Asia, the aspiration of homeownership is deeply ingrained in the cultural psyche, with owning a property often perceived as a fundamental life goal. This essay will first explore the primary reasons behind this preference for owning over renting, before arguing that while this trend has certain economic benefits, it ultimately represents a largely negative situation due to its adverse effects on social mobility and individual financial wellbeing.

The profound desire for homeownership can be attributed to a combination of financial security and deep-seated cultural values. From an economic standpoint, property is widely regarded as a stable and appreciating asset, offering long-term financial security that renting cannot provide. Unlike rent payments, which are essentially non-recoverable expenditure, mortgage instalments contribute towards building equity and generational wealth. Culturally, homeownership is frequently equated with achieving the "national dream" and signifies stability, success, and social status. In many societies, owning a home is considered a rite of passage into adulthood, providing a tangible sense of permanence and belonging that renting, with its inherent transience, fails to offer. For instance, in countries like China and India, owning property is often a prerequisite for marriage, underscoring its profound social significance.

Despite these compelling motivations, I contend that the overwhelming emphasis on homeownership is predominantly detrimental. Perhaps the most significant drawback is the erosion of labour mobility. Individuals burdened by substantial mortgages are often reluctant to relocate for better job opportunities, which can stifle career progression and perpetuate regional economic imbalances. Furthermore, the exorbitant cost of purchasing property frequently necessitates taking on substantial debt, leaving individuals financially vulnerable to economic downturns or unexpected life events such as unemployment or illness. This financial precarity can lead to immense stress and limit disposable income, thereby constraining quality of life. Moreover, this cultural norm inadvertently fuels property speculation, driving up housing prices and rendering homeownership unattainable for younger generations, thereby exacerbating intergenerational inequality.

In conclusion, while the aspiration to own a home is understandable, rooted in both financial logic and cultural tradition, I believe that the societal pressure to prioritise ownership over renting creates more problems than it solves. The resultant reduction in workforce flexibility and the financial strain it imposes outweigh the perceived benefits of asset accumulation. Therefore, a cultural shift towards embracing renting as a viable, flexible alternative would likely lead to a more dynamic and equitable society.

Band Score 6Owning a home is prefered in some of the countries instead of renting a home. There might be due to several reasons for these opinion. I would prefer renting as my option, this essay will describe the reasons for them. On one hand, owning a home required lots of money in current market situation. Some people might own their own homes either they might get those as a generational wealth from their parents , or by taking large amounts of loan from the bank to buy them, these make them fell restricted to the job they are currently working and will restrict them from taking higher risks in their life. But having a own house will definatly boost their self esteem and also helps them having higher social status as own house is considered most important in society. On the other hand, renting a home will reduce pressure on individual and people doing occupations across different areas would prefer renting in the area they are working . Renting would also a easy process of evacuation when ever they needed. And most of the people might not be having enough income to afford houses , as they are being more expensive than their budgets capital. For example, consider buying a home a house for one crore which would on an average return 30% over a span of 10 years on compounding , instead find a better alternative of investing in SIP's or mututal funds with would provide a higher ROI compared to owning a house. In conclusion , its individuals choice to own a property according to their capability. My personal choice is to rent a home and choose plan life smartly.

Band Score 5.5In many parts of the world, having a own house is more valuled than renting one , because people tend to have something permanently. I think, this is a positive side. One of the main reasons behind this is satisfaction, which influences someone to own something for himself/ herself. Humanms are born with independent tendency and they do not want to be stucken anywhere, even, in other's house. They like authority in every aspects and so buy houses of their own to decorate it according to his/ her wish. Even, many housing companies offer lucrative discounts and oppurtunities to have a permanent residents. For instance, many citizents of Dhaka city buy apartments to live for long time, it is also considered as a sign of wealth. This human tendency can be regarded constructive. Because, it has economic values in the society. When people live in other's property, they do not spend more as a house owner spends. Individuals' expectation to own a house expands economic activities and more people are employed in this sectors. The authority can aslo make a better plan for the dwellers as they know the exact number of people in a certain place or city, whereas people living by renting house can create complexity in order to initiate a good plan, because they stay temporarily, even there can be housing problem. For example, big cities like London, Berlin, Paris, and many other european cities are facing accute housing crisis. In conclusion, staying in own house can be more relaxed and a sign of dignity, which leads somene to have a private home and this is a positive move.

Band Score 6Home is one of the main part of our lives and there are two ways to own it. One group of people believes that it is better to pay every month for flat, whereas another group prefet to buy it. As far as I am concern, both of this ways have benefits and drawbacks, which can be crucial for some people. On the one hand, it would be rather silly to assume that have own property is bad. If you have your own house you can feel calm even if you have problem with money, because you need to pay only for electricity and water, this spendings are not very expensive in many countries, certainly they are cheaper then renting. Therefore if you have two or more homes, you can generate income by taking a rent from people who need home. However, if you did not receive the flat from your relatives as a gift or an inheritence, it is going to be complicated to buy home by yourself. For instance in many developed countries only people over 40 can afford buying a flat. On the other hand, if you renting flat you can feel more free. To illustrate, people who pay for home every month can choose new and move if they change the place of job or if they just tired from place where they lived. Nevertheless, that way of owning home can be dangerous if you have not steady income, because you can become homeless, if you have not enough money for the rent. To conclude, both of the way possesing home have advantages and disadvantages, and tipe that is going to be better depend on your circumstances.

Band Score 6.5It is widely recognized by residents in certain nations that the private ownership of a housing estate is of vital importance. This general thought is likely to be driven by a long-term profit motive. From my own perspective, the purchase of a property provides substantial benefits to individuals both financially and psychologically. The principle reason behind this specific action lies in the fundamental economic difference between a rented property and an owned one. Most notably, if a citizen possesses an apartment, he is no longer vulnerable to the fluctuating rents of the accommodation. Consequently, the financial burden people have to shoulder is significantly alleviated. In addition, householders have a alternative option to lend out their property to generate a considerable amount of passive income. To sum up, fewer essential expenses on rents and the potential monetary rewards, when combined, serves as powerful catalysts for urban dwellers to invest in their own property. In terms of its merits and demerits, I am inclined to believe that the benefits of house ownership substantially outweighs its drawbacks. Apart from the financial incentives aforementioned, owning a house foster a sense of accomplishment in residents. Take Hong Kong as an example, acquiring a house and building a family is the craving of most white-collar employees. In light of the escalating property prices, house ownership is generally regarded as a symbol of wealth and social status. Locals will experience profound fulfillment and be greeted with affirmation if they successfully purchase a residential flat. In conclusion, the acquisition of a private property remains one of the overriding priorities among the general public, owing to its unmatched profitability and emotional satisfaction. I highly recommend buying a flat to enhance your future development.

Band Score 5.5Depending on which country or city one may live, a house ownership over a rented one will be highly prefered. In my opinion, I argue that purchasing a property by your own has a greater value than having to pay a bill every month for it. This essay will illustrate my point of view of this preference, and if it has drawbacks or beneficials results. To begin, owning a home is associated to peace, financial freedom, and greater enternainment choice. For instance, the fact of possessing a house gives you longterm, a retable economy. It is clear that a relatively high month bill multiply for the years that you might live in, may be the same amount or even less than buying one house. Moreover, having your own path distinct from those of your neighbours will not impede you from resting on nights. Contrastingly, if you live in an appartement founded in a residence area, you will probably hear one newborn crying on the next wall or a couple over your floor discussing personal matters. From one perspective, having a house brings you mental calmness with future improved financial provision. However, if you are someone that are not certain of remaining in one place for a long-time period, it might convert in an obstacle when it comes to taking a decision to move on in another state or city for instance. To conclude, I will opt to acquire a house than renting one, if my economies allow it. Nevertheless, I will remain conscious that if I decide to migrate to a new country, it will be disabled to easily go abroad.

Band Score 5.5In certain countries, owning accommodation is essential for people rather than renting. In my opinion, its largely a positive development because owning a home offers several advantages. On one hand, having own home offers several benefits. Firstly, its their own house and people can do whatever they want whether its dancing or just throwing everything away. That is, there are no one who may disturb, for example while someone is doing housechorses or homeworks, there will be simply just you and your family, thereby they can live without any distractions. Secondly, they can be surrounded by own space, for example their garden full of vegatables and fruits, also their free garage. In other words, they do not need to share extra space with someone. Furthermore, compared to renting, owning ones is much more affordable and cheaper because rent pays are quite expensive. Consequently, owners have to pay utility bins and property tax without rent. Nevertheless, renting accommodation can be really expensive. This is because, the demands for renting are significantly increasing because people want to spend money only on rent pay, which includes everyting, rather than paying separately both utility bins and property tax. Additionally, in most cases they can feel themselves discomfort and feel that they are not at their own home. Moreover, they may not have enough space or just be disturbed by other people, which can be an unpleasant situation. In conclusion, i firmly believe that owning a home is necessary rather renting ones because you can feel discomfort and everytime be distracted by others.

Band Score 6The question of whether owning a home is more crucial or renting is far more positive has increasingly become a noticeable concern in many parts of the world and is now considered as an important concern for society. There are some countries believe that owning a home is far more benefecial than renting it due to strong cultural values, traditional customs and considering the financial outcomes. Although there are different arguments regarding this issue, I strongly believe that this development is largely benefecial and contribute positive outcomes. This essay will explain the primary reasons of my perspective and why I believe this development is positive. On the one hand, owning a home is far more beneficial than spending money for rental spaces every week. This is because raising financial stressors, low income, poverty, unemployment or health conditions could negatively affect on paying rentals every week. As a result, people are more comfortable of living in their own homes and through investing money for a new home or owning a home through inheritance. For example, recent research from University of Sydeney illustrates that many university graduates are inclined to save moeny to buy a home after they graduated from universities and settled with their families in their own homes. It also showed the percentages of owning houses of newly married couples are far more increased over the past few years due to above reasons. On the other hand, some countries believe in strong cultural backgrounds and traditions that could pass generation to another which lagely focused on owning ancestral home through the generations. For instance, most ancesters in Denmark, Sri Lanka, China, and Belgium are keen to pass the inheritence to their young generation in order to save the strong cultural perspectives and family traditions. As a result, young generation are more encouraged to renovate their ancestral home and live with their families over the years while protecting their cultural history. In conclusion, although there are differnet arguments regarding this developmrnt, I strongly believe that owning a home is best way to love without financial and cultural stressors and its outcomes are positive and productive. This is because owning a hose can protect traditions are protected for decades, respect the cultural backgrounds, less finanacial and economic pressure and help to maintain healthy mental health while improving overall financial, cultural and mental health effectively.
